hello india

tomorrow i fly.

had a very merry Christmas! Akshia and me went to Atlantic city. got there at 9pm, and played until 6:30am...gee! i mean, for how long can one continue loosing (casinos, me and winning - don't go together...historically) ??? But this time we came out on a break-even.
it was ironic, 'cause i had expected something to happen! i should have lost it all or i should have got some moolah! it seemed to have averaged out...darn...i think i needed more time!

came back home...slept for a little while...as has been the order of this week...(i have slept for about 24hours in the past 7 days...really!) and continue working all day thru the night. But still could not finish what i was trying to get done...life.

today the gang took me out for lunch to a nice place. its a 250 year old restaurant in Essex... although the food was just about mediocre...perhaps my sandwich was the worst thing on their menu :D

just finished doing packing!!
now chatting with a girl...i've intermittently know her for about 4 years now...!!!

DonationPeople has now earned in exces of $200 for the needy!

Thanks people!

Apocalypto

Surprisingly, I did not miss English too much!

This one gets 8.5/10. After weeks of controversies, Mel would have taken a sigh of relief...basically, laughing all the way to his bank. At a position where he is, you need to be extra careful of what you say...lol, and the same goes for you - Pope.

The movie is well made, and the amazing videography keeps you interested while you read the subtitles to understand what is going on. Some of the scenes were just plain savage...Braveheart ishtyle! :-p so dark the con of man; i enjoyed the show anyway.

Akshia is here for his winter vacation. unfortunately i have to be in office and remain busy with work...i guess i owe it to the ailing business for the upcoming absense.

Hurray! 10 days to go...i'll be in Dilli :)

of all the things that irritate me, the one that most irritates, confuses, diffuses, -all-darn-fuses me is the tendency of people to change status quo when least wanted. and there is no differentiation between good or bad status quo here...They just turnover things from the way they are, or in other words 'should be'. It freaks me out. I mean - why?! Why?! WHY?!

uff!

saw Blood Diamond and the Departed a few days back. good movies both of them, but i liked Departed better.
Saw 'Babel'...twas a disappointment.

...

12 apartments were damaged! this fire, right behind my apartment was the unfortunate highlight of the weekend. Fortunately noone was hurt.
wait till you hear the reason for the fire - haw! Mr wise guy on the 3rd floor, took out the recent burnt firewood out of the fireplace and put it in a carton in the living room before going off to sleep! lol!! I mean how hard is it to start a fire with burning splinters of wood in a fully carpetted wooden house?????!!!

well i got a chance to test my camera. the first couple of pics are from my balcony and the last one is right at the crime-scene next to the brave firemen!

yipppeee!

my Christmas present to me :)

The Canon Rebel XTi is home! awesome! :-)

Waiting for an opportunity to get out in the open and shoot some pictures...!

oh btw, i just checked, the temparature at the moment is -5 Degree Celsius here... there goes the idea of going out...just happy to make it to the car every morning to get to work!! :D
brrrrrr....BRRRRRRR....

egad!!

I still dunno how to pronounce the word 'egad'. used to read it in the Archies comics in the good 'ol days :)
neway, the reason for this expression to come out from the bottom of my heart - driving test scheduled on Thursday. Yes people. I am an alien in this country...and i do have to actually take the test to get the license - which btw, expires along with my visa validity.
Unlike mera pyaara desh, jahan i could just get it... :-D 1300 lage thay last time...don't know the going rate!

:))) sigh.... a loooohhonng weekend!

a lot of online shopping.
Darn, i was lazy not to go to the stores for the thanksgiving sale! and then realised later i could've done with some holiday shopping for the trip to desh.

saw Departed. now dats a my kinda movie. fast and entertaining. it gets a 9 outa 10.

Every month i try to keep the expenses to the minimum, but one thing or the other keeps me from doing so. he he! kya karein...control nahi hota.

ab tak OG10 bhi khatam nai hui...stupid me!

Orkut browsing is a freakin time waste. am happier with people calling me instead of me looking for them.

Dilli durr nahi...

Me on vacation to Dilli starting 28th Dec. Hurray!

haven't blogged for a while. No excuses...oh alright, yes i was overly busy. Busy in lazying, busy in partyin, busy in me.

Had a super time last to last weekend when i was with Akshia, TushB and milu.

Sorry Akshia, why are you not in this photu?
prolly because of how busy you are.

Hmm....so much happened in the past few days. Enough for me to not try noting it down tonight. it's 1.20am now, but am not too sleepy. got the jet lag in a sleepless night at the airport.

Planning to buy the Rebel XTi. Amazing stuff. Can;t wait to get my hands on it and enter the world of D-SLRs.

Happy Thanksgiving!

learn to live

The fun part about living (yeah i mean - staying alive) is that everyday you learn to live.

As each day passes, while I keep wondering what the purpose of this life is and will be in the future, I come to terms with the fact that the curiousity and greed to know more will not die until I do.

After just 3 lines of blogging I do not what i'm talking about
:o)
I guess what I'm really trying to do here is making an age old statement in a new way. not able to do that. mixed thoughts.

on a different topic. as I try to understand what an mba aspirant/graduate *should do, i am also trying to figure whether I really am in that league. low confidence perhaps...or is it calibre? I want to find that out. Look like there is no easy way or a hard way...I need to create my own path.
Stuck.

Adjectives, not words coming out of my brain.
weird post.

Although, i did get support from many friends. they've forwarded the link to their friends as well.

you are supposed to grab opportunities with both hands.

So when Rick asked me if i wanted to accompany him as his associate to Boston in a conference where he'll be pitching NuRide, when NuRide was shortlisted in the top 22 of the 600 applicant companies, where multi-millionairre investors would discover the next TiVo within the 6minutes of pitching time per company....
I said yes with both hands.

what do i do???

so while all the KT is going on in my company...i asked a questions to one of my collegues in an email.
He did replly, but his reply was confusing enough. it was all theoretical.
So I asked again - i did not understand what you meant. can you give an example.
what do i get back? - the same line (as in nthe same words...the same words!!!) as the reply.
So i asked in a different way - did you mean A-..... or did you mean B-.....?
And this time the reply he gives is - he does tell me if its A or if its B. He replies 'C'.
i am still confused.

now what do i do?

i'll just ask another guy.

what a dream can do

Amazing stuff.
I have been doing this for a while and i realised only today that this is all so cool!

This is what i do -
I dream during the night (yeah, this is the 'what we all do' part).
After i wake up, there are memories of the latest dream i had...

and while brushing my teeth every morning, it seems, i've gotten into the habbit of analyzing my dreams - what i did wrong, what i could have done better, what i should actually do in real life!
Amazing ain't it?!!
So i try to learn from my dreams, i try to learn from something that never happened...or at the most is just a premonition!

dreams can get so real at times.
Only realised after i had the one i did this morning. there are just faint memories now. i just remember for a few minutes after i wake up...and then i get lost in the more material world.
When you look at yourself from a universal standpoint, something inside always reminds or informs you that there are bigger and better things to worry about.

last week

From Albany, NY
Had a chill weekend. 2nd in a row. Milu came to my place by train and then we drove to Albany to see off Sandy. oh well, Sandy left for India on the following Monday, so even he got a chance to see us off on Sunday :D
Waha pahuche Friday raat 12:30am...pata chala sone ka kuch bandobast nahi...aur phir main jab bhi jaldi main packing karta hun, kuch toh reh hi jaata hai. forgot to take a comforter with me. So we went to the nearest walmart at 2am!, i guess that was the only open store at that time to buy a new blanket for me.
we did masti at home and clubbing on Saturday. played pool for a while. Saw these great desi gals in the pub, but din't get a chance to talk as everyone else was feeling sleepy and just wanted to leave...well, yeah, that one excuse :p

Sal is back. Toh ab weekend movie dekhna shuru phirse?!

Will meet Ruchi over the weekend for Diwali and to see her off to DC as well!

Had interesting conversation with TushB in the past few days...

Things are pretty roller coastie (i just coined a nu word) at work. Will update one of these days, as soon as i find out whats goin on :-)

was thinking about my trips to Charlotte earlier this year.
:-) between me n Akshia, i think i've not grown up yet. Still can easily find an excuse to fight. I would not fight over silly stuff with my friends, but its 'just another excuse' to fight with Akshia! ha ha! mota.

ma's birthday today.

thanks to the internet, was able to send her those roses just in time. thank you comcast high speed internet! :-p

am getting in the habbit of having a heavy dinner, less than light lunch and non-existant breakfast. Egg-jactly opposite of what the doctor ordered! :D

as good as it gets

what more could i ask for? (i mean, ofcourse i could do with a better salary and an mba invitation from MIT..but am not talking about that!)

a nice start to the 26 year.

So, when on 25th Sal, his roomies and Rupesh gave me a surprise with a cake, on 26th my office gang ganged up on me...in a good way! Rick took me out for lunch while Steph, Lisa & R set up the balloons and the cake. Oh the cake was yummy..i think had 4pieces and so did Rick ;-)
come 27th, one was flattered while the other was portrayed a villain and/or hero. the words were -
"I think the lucky guy is Ankush.
....
Best of luck with Ankush"
As much as a surprise this was, it was also hilarious as to how presumptuous could anyone be. Or was it just his premonition to face rejection strongly?
Or he could be a smartass trying to check availability?

27th night, i played Ping Pong for 2 hours. Wow! I had never been this excited to play tt before. plaed it after almost a couple of years i think.
The stamina and the touch with the own racquet...that makes it difficult to get back in the groove...!

happy bday to me

'twas almost as if something was running behind me for most of the past year. When i woke up this morning i was 26, and i realised that it was 'time' that was after me.
and the worst part is...it still is.

But i'm not gonna make this a boring post with the yearly resolutions..another day another time :p

Today has been fine day.
Had been busy all morning with phone calls. Got about 70-80 scraps (yeah, that is one measure of the popularity index). Not that i am de popular guy in town, never was, but its always great to get calls and notes of best wishes any day of the year.

here's the list of people i spoke with in one form or the other in no particular order -
mom, dad, bhai, sid, mama, mami, nana, nani, avinash mama, usha mausi, hiren, puneet, pulkit, swati, deepika, asif, abhishek, addy, Manish, Biju, Himz, Raheel, Paddy, Soumyatanu, Somnath, Namrita, Vaish, Milu, Gouri, Santha, Hereka, Sandy, Shveta, Ankush, Samidha, Parmod, Disha, Sandeep, Jith, tini, chiki, dolly bhua, arvind, abhishek, sumeet, kapil, avik, srijesh, varun, uday, gaurav, Payal, Gaurav, Hemali, Saurabh, Nidhi, Sal, Deepak, Adity, himanshu, dipesh, tushar venky, bency, yatin, amit, vidushi, soham, varun, shaoor, sudeep, gaurav, shrikanth, rajesh, Seth, Richard, Lisa, Guillermo, Samidha, Rupesh, Satish, Smita, Arjav, Rupesh, Chitra, Inder, Gyan

how was the weekend?

super.
nothin special. but had a nice time.

Did bowling for a couple of hours. Always nice to see people awe with my spinning style :D Just need a bit of finesse and *obviously* more accuracy. Can't seem to get beyond 150 nowadays..
Saw 'Jet Li's Fearless'. Impressive natural action sequences...in that they used little of the fagged computer graphics. Although, the flying humans of 'crouching tiger hidden dragon' fame still reign!
These 3 big mosquitos were giving me a brain buzz...spend 30 minutes trying to hit 'em with my slippers. lol!
Gave the Solara a happy shine. Took it for a car wash, cleaned it up myself, and then a car wax coating. And tomorrow i have the appointment for an Oil change.
Spend some time on Official Guide.
Had aloo paranthas. Burned one of them.

Hollywood Land

Since Sal has one broken limb we decided not to go for bowling this weekend. Maybe a month from now...unless i decide to go alone.

We went to watch Hollywood Land. Wasn't a particularly amazing movie, just about worth the effort of going for a movie.

The story was kinda complex, and at one time I was thinking to myself that even the director of the movie should have been confused while working around with all the scenarios and the few little mini stories within the movie.

I'd give this 7/10.

The last good movie i saw was definitely Pirate of the Caribbean 2

I called up Aetna atleast 3 times to make sure they send my payment coupons to CT. Which ofcourse i never received.
Instead, i get a letter which says that i voluntarily terminated my subscription.

uhhh!!!
you have no idea of the extent of my anger. with license, car registration, car insurance, health insurance, springs at reston. OMG, the list is endless.
am dealing with morons these days.

sneak preview

Perhaps Google accidently turned on the 'add tab' feature on the Google Personalised home!!!
I got it for a second. Then it disappeared. Then it came back, and i added more cool stuff to a new tab on my personalised home, and now it has again disappeared!

I got a sneak preview i guess. and here's this post as a proof that i saw it...before the release date?! :p

russell and dmv

Russell Peters. The numero uno Candian-Indian comedian. If you have not already seen him perform, you will want to after watching his videos!

Anyway, he will be performing inn NYC in Nov. I intend to be there.
So, there's you chance of hitting two birds with one stone - meet Russell Peters & Ankush Bhargava live in NYC Nov 17th!
ta da!

Tried to get a CT license today.
Completely ran out of luck with these guys! Went to Middletown office, only to hear that they don't process licenses for non-US citizens here.
Then went to Wethersfield office to learn that my Ohio license is non-transferrable. And i need to re-apply and go through the entire grind of test taking again. And on top of that, the earliest appointment day available was Dec 7.

jeez!

tujhse naraaz nahi...

tujhse naraaz nahi zindagi hairaan hun main...haan hairaan hun main...

once i had sat down trying to understand the song...
...could not at that time.

Had a chillax Saturday! Did groceries to begin the day. Broke 6 eggs while driving back :-). Was on phone for like 2 hours. Ate chicken biryani at Sals place. Went out for shopping. Bought a nice black Van Heusen jacket to feed me heat in the CT winter. Bought loads of Lindts :-). Made shrimps in the evening...everyone liked 'em :-). Ate fish cooked by Maddy (S.Madhavan!). Tomato daal and rice.
All in all a very satisfying weekend and Sunday isnt even here yet.

Akshia is ever so busy with his mba.

RBCs

huh! they can clone sheeps. they can clone monkeys. they can clone humans (well in theory!).

Somebody tell me, why can't they manufacture blood for those who need it?

Why should people die because they could not get blood that their medical condition urgently demanded?

Ha! And Red Cross just got fined $4.2million because they did not follow the blood donation rules and regulations

lagey raho

saw munna bhai sequel and Omkara...
wow! you know...i'm not much of a Bollywood fan...so me watching 2 of them in 3 weeks is big deal :p

Omkara was okay. Watchable movie. well made.

Munna Bhai was hilarious! a must watch :-)

can't sleep

sometimes you get so tired...you can't sleep.
i'm tire of thinking today. i do that all the time...can't sleep now.

got the emission check done on the car, and a haircut today. $22 for the haircut? is that expensive or what!
Have bought the ipod fm transmitter, and stuck it on the dashboard. A little tatic, but overall a better experience than the radio!!

had a team lunch today. Rick likes everyone to get together for lunch ever once in a while.
went to the 'Blue Oars' restaurant. Its located besides the Atlantic...a scenic view and the food wasn't bad either.
ts funny. you never visit the local attractions until you are forced to, after wich you realised what you missed.

had gone to NJ this past weekend. The weekend was so hectic...worked throughout. the release finally went live yesterday. and now had another one tonight. and another one on Saturday.

gotta catch up with sleep...

need to sleep

is sleeping early a sign of machurity??

come to think of it, that's a darn fine question!

if you sleep early, you are in the best shape the next morning. you can concentrate more & work harder. Basically you are in the best position to do things that a machured guy would do...like make a living and be good at what you do!

if you sleep early, you are not doing things that you'd do late night viz. partying, drinking, vella-panteeing, watching t.v. So you are saving so much time during the night and you use it to actually give a rest to your body (you know it's been shouting at you - gimme a break, gImMe a BrEaK, GIMME A BREAK!).

if you sleep early, you wake up and you are just happy; you know there is a whole day ahead of you. Just check your gmail/ yahoo and orkut accounts in 30minutes and you're all set :-) all set to survive the rest of the work day that would probably end early sinnce you started early!

seriously.
i'd consider it.

in da house

some of us, would be glad to see some furniture in my apartment...finally! :-)

all roads lead to dilli

on Jan 9 '07, it would have been exactly 2years of me being away from India. I got the chance to not let that happen. Will be in Dilli on 28th Dec until 26Jan.

lets start planning!!! waha pahuch ke kya kya karna hai ab!

had been really busy for a while. the busYness ends this Fri/Sat hopefully. And then I take on the next biggie.

lolz, called up customer service of ADP benefit desk today. This guy says - "Hi, I am Adam, how can I help you?".
I was thinking, you freaking ABCD main tyada country mate bol raha hun. Whats your real name? Ramnarayan?
So much for thinking, these call center people don't have the thinking gadgets if you knwo what i mean. They can only say or do what was taught to them.
Hey! common sense is a thing of the past!
Oh, and most of the amroos are even worse at that.

have bought the ipod nano 4G black. groovy huh!

NJ main dhamaal

It's such a notable difference. 10minutes earlier i was in the heart of the big apple. the 'sex and the city' city. crossed the Hudson, and drove stright into what felt like flat wastelands. the sign-board said NJ.

Sandy drove over to my place Friday night. I came out to meet him at the Berlin road Junction to avoid him getting lost. Then while his car was following mine to my home, i crossed the traffic light while it was yellow. the safe (, but unfortunate) driver got left behind and the point of me coming out was somewhat lost :D. Anyways, we got home without much trouble and left for dinner in the next 5minutes. did a lot of catching up during dinner...din't realise it was 11:15 and as we realised that the Haveli guys were getting ready to pack-up. We left in a jiffy.

Raat ko 2 baje tak gappe maare, subah 10:30baje Milu ka phone aaya. chal diye kya? hmmm....we were no the way at that time. I meant Sandy had just started the car and i was looking at the map :)
Toh NJ main gujju aur Milu mile. thode gappe maare, lunch at a S.Indian place, lot of food, aur phir kaafi soch vichar ke baad hum we went to watch 'snakes on the plane'. It had got 8.3 on imdb (jerks!) and so risk was less. but the final impact was amazing. it sucks! don't watch it!

had never spend so much time in a theatre parking lot. it was fun, the four of us spend about an hour just chatting in the parking lot. duh! it was so long that even the theatre security van came and checked upon us :p

went to Chilis to have margarritas before the final plunge at the bowling alley! i had the classic margarita. was a bit sour to taste...but only in the beginning!
Sakuri aur Sujar bhi wahi mil gaye! nice!
never realised bowling alleys could be so packed. we got a lane#80 something after waiting for more than an hour! wow!

no 'bowling alley Dayton' records were broken during the weekend. But i live to try again tomorrow.

peace.

beatles - can't buy me love....

Money can't buy happiness, but neither can poverty.

Beatles - Money can't buy me love
Can't buy me love, love
Can't buy me love

I'll buy you a diamond ring my friend if it makes you feel alright
I'll get you anything my friend if it makes you feel alright
'Cause I don't care too much for money, money can't buy me love

I'll give you all I got to give if you say you love me too
I may not have a lot to give but what I got I'll give to you
I don't care too much for money, money can't buy me love

Can't buy me love, everybody tells me so
Can't buy me love, no no no, no

Say you don't need no diamond ring and I'll be satisfied
Tell me that you want the kind of thing that money just can't buy
I don't care too much for money, money can't buy me love

uncertainties

Since i've joined my company, it has shrunk from 15 employees to 13. One of them was let go today. And with that news today morning i got a shrinking feeling as well. I thought whether the company is in such a bad state that the ceo had to take that harsh decision? or was it that startups just tend to drop off their weakest links when times are bad. And then in the evening, I was explained how the later of the two was the rationality.
I like the way Rick conducts his business. Involves everyone, what harm could 'everyone' possible do...?...if you can control them!

just one of the uncertainties in life.

i noticed

I noticed and want to shout out loud -

1. This is my 25th year of liife. A silver anniversary! cheers to me! hurray!
...and i was born on the 25th of some month. this numerical incident won't repeat ever again :)

2. Besides the usual holiday mood of 15th Aug, i noticed many of 'us' to be proud of being Indians. Love the feeling.

self motivation is the best weapon i have against myself.

got quite a bit of work done this past Sunday. Got the sofa. Met Ardey. Worked on the GMCR stuff for office.
Had more progress today in office.
The forecaste looks good for this week :) sun is expected to shine to glory until atleast the white flakes take over.

Will meet Gujju, Milu, Sandy and Sal over the weekend. should be fun.

ufff...India ka ticket mil jaye...i really wanna go.

these happy days... (pun intended)

uhhh...what the dull week this has been.

I haven't felt like working at all, couldn't get my mind into anything. A truck load of trash colleccted. no food in the house...things just lying around. twas a mess. Watched tv for most of the free time.

think i need to get out and meet a few souls i like to be around with.

meanwhile the bad run of luck (or in other words 'run out of luck') continues. The couch is lying in the 1st floor since yesterday. I haven't checked if it is still there or someone took it in the dark of the night (so dark the con of man :p). Lerner corporation sent me a bill of $1700 for 'i dunno what'. have a lot of pending work on hands now.

life goes on.

fighters

All winners are fighters. But, all fighters are not winners.
Ofcourse you know what i mean by fighters!

What about the people who won without fighting. They din't necessairly use the wrong means..Are they just plain lucky?
Or is their winning is their limited by their definition of success.

A bit of everything huh?

Got the bed today. phew...tough job getting it up the 3rd floor. The seller, a 78 year old man, was kind enough (or in other words, brave enough!) to help me drag the stuff upstairs.
He said he could do that for a nice boy like me. Kudos to me! :p

a heat wave

in the good ol country i come from...the heat wave boils the atmosphere to 48degrees (118F).
Here a 105F boils the country to, unfortunately, death.
The people are not accustommed, nor prepared.

Is the widespread power shortage and the hype a sign of things to come.
Personally, i don't understand the Bush administration's stand on global warming. Its undeniable as far as i'm concerned. The congress is full of morons! and sometimems laloo in Bihar doesn't look so bad :p he is perhaps only half as wicked as many here.

hmm...am watching 'Kingdom Of Heaven'...watching the brave knight committing suicide. Whatever happened to tratgey and logic.

dats dirt cheap!!

well, so i got bored and thought i'd go bowling...which was the first time here in DC, and only the 2nd time this year!!
as always opened mapquest.com and found the nearest bowling alley and drove there.
To my surprise, the deal was that on weekdays, 9pm to 2am unlimited bowling is for $9.99 + $3.49 for shows. wow! wee!

my bowling arm got an excercise :) a heavy one!
i bowled non-stop for about an hour and a half. played probably 8 straight games. no breaks as i was the only one playing. man! got so tired i had to leave after 90 minutes! ohhhh all rest of free time gone waste :p

reached 143. was consistantly around 125 mark for all of the games.
which i thought was okay.

what's left of me

Watch my life,
Pass me by,
In the rearview mirror
Pictures frozen in time
Are becoming clearer
I don't wanna waste another day
Stuck in the shadow of my mistakes
...

not that the song applies to me in any circumstances today :p just like the lyrics.

mom and dad have left my place. they are in Vegas now. having fun with Akshia who'll be with them for another week, and then it's Avinash mama for the week after that. After which they'll fly back to India.

It was just great to have them here. With Akshia around most of the time, twas evn better.
Itne time baad ladaiyan kari...acha khana khaaya (, although i'm not on way to weight gain yet) enjoy kiya!

back to busy office now.

and uff, ek gf dhoondani hai. too much peer pressure :p

trip to CT

well it was a nice little trip to Connecticut.

met Ruchi. mom-dad saw NY. almost finished the Dashboard.
In the 20 odd months of my stay here in US this will be the 4th moving. Looks like i'm one of the lucky few who get a chance to do that. I mean in my ~5 of professional career i've switched jobs only once, but have stayed for a while in Bangalore, Dayton, San Antonio, Reston and now Essex. Kewl.
It tires me to think i will be moving again! but yes, i'm excited about the whole thing :) And this time i'm the best prepared. I know where my office is. I've already seen the apartment and booked it. i know the way to NY.

Essex is a different kinda place. It's besides the Atlantic, and a pretty flat little town. Did not see any apartment complexes. And so will be staying in Middletown about 25miles away from work. Am told if you are young, and in Essex area, Middletown is the place to be...the young and restless are in middletown :p

Mom and Dad ke saath yeh aakhri weekend hai :( phir woh chale jayenge LA...aur hum phir akele...

long time

it's been a long while since you've seen a scrap from me...albeit a happy happy long time. have been keeping busy with mom n dad's visit. and the usual work tagging along...

soch ke acha nahi lagta ki mom-dad will go back to India about 2weeks from now.

so it was my second trip in as many weeks to Charlotte this past weekend. 420miles one way, 6.5hrs, quite a drive when it's done 4 times in 14 days!
Well, it was worth the effort. Nothing like being together...the whole family.

So while i've been going to Charlotte, Akshia has had the opportunity of piggybacking up on me. Today was his last day at Infy. The Bhargavas, of E-70, are ot of Infy in entirety now!!

The hope. the hope for a better life and the work to achieve it. the journey. words.

There is so much to say. so little time. so much of it mismanaged. wasted.
So much to do.
At time i think i should forget the funda of prioritizing. Damn! it's all gotta be done.

blogging helps to get back on track i guess.

mom-dad are here

when life gives you options, then you skip those that are not forced upon you; go for the ones you like.
i was given the option of love, comfort and laziness. voila! i din't blog for these many days :)

mom and dad are here...yay! seeing them after 1.5 long years. missed them.

well, so a lot of things have happened since they've come...we went shopping, went to Niagara, went to Ocean city beach, visited relatives etc etc etc. Akshia was also here for one of the weekends. We are going to Charlotte this weekend and i will drop them off there until Akshia resigns and then we'll be one happy family together in DC for some more time :)
Sid, Sidhant is also here. He probably got bored of visiting LA every time he comes here (also, he had an 'option' to come here this time...so why not)

bhai is here

Akshia is here these days.

We went to do Water rafting...err...Kayaking. (why no rafting, is a question with an answers best kept secret :p).
Kayak a water sport where you get to sit in your own little Kayak (a boat) and then are attached to it using a skirt (much like a skater's feet are attached to his skates). Since it a boat and you also get you own paddle. A paddle is a like a rod with blades on either side so you can move the boat.

We went early morning to the kayaking spot which is off the Potomac River in DC area. Very close to my house, about 15miles :)
We had taken the full day course with a trainer with us during the 5 hour session. Yep it was 5 hours, for 5 hours we were in our Kayaks on the Potomac River. For 5 hours she was trying to teach how to CPR. Thats Catch, Power and R.... (i forgot what R was for) yep, not the CPR that you expected :p. These are basically the basic steps of Kayaking. We were a group of 3 students and the trainer.
Twas great fun. I've always loved playing sports and now i know a new one. Hope i'll get time to do more Kayaking or Rafting. lolz, and spend some intimate times with the trainer, now only me, candice (the trainer) and her college buddy know what that is :p!

a new experience

well, was with a services company for three and a half years. And I was doing outsourced work (yes, taking away American jobs.).
On Friday i had a meeting, in a bar, with the CEO of a smalltime Indian outsourcing company. We might outsource some of our work, ofcourse time and money screws up all plans, sometime later this year.
The realization that i was sitting there as a client was somewhat wonderful :)

who knows we might do some work out of India or Ukraine, and i'd be the one to fly over and do a 'client visit' to the location :)

no sugar baby!

ha ha!
so i got these ready to eat parantha , and went to the market specifically to get some curd to go with the aloo paranthas (slurp).
Got home, it was already 5 so was very very hungry.
And i was thinking to myself 'so what if there is no sabzi, atleast there curd'...hmmm, i need sugar. sugar? i got no sugar!
shit! i can't have the curd now. just too tired to go and get sugar now.

no sugar baby!

he he! haven't cooked for one month, din't even realise i never bought any sugar!

killer javascript

of all the good time i spent coding dash2, javascript took 30% of the time. that minuscle piece of client side shit code.

went to visit deepa mausi last Sunday, and then again today for Radhika's bday. Boy i had to ask 3 people what i should buy for a 14yr old girl. then took the easy way out - yep, gift cards, Barnes & Nobles. They're the best!
It was fun watching those 14something girls American, oh the purse is so nice...oh reaaallyyy? nooo waayy...you know whattt!...ooohhh...aaahh.
you've got to be kidding me!

I need to stop complaining about things. I mean, I don't put much to mouth, but i think too hard! and that's not good.

have been working pretty hard over the last couple of weeks. so come home surf the net, basically do nothing, and go off to sleep around 10:30 so am not too tired to work the next day...
now that routine is very, verrry difficult to keep. Maybe because i'm alone these days, so i can sleep, had i been with a flatmate, it would've been completely different.

Hey all girls out there. I am alone, and i am single as well.
:D

dig this -
i lost my bankone debit card. they won't let me take a new one unless i go to a branch and identify myself. oh n they don't operate in the DC vicitnity.
i dunno the pin number for my credit card.
i got a citibank debit card, but the pin they sent doesn't work with it.

i got cash from a nice sardarji of an Indian store, and that how i have enuf to pay for my lunch. i usually have lunch at the Deli downstairs of where i work. Now the office is something to look at. it's like i degraded ~300% of what i was used to in Infosys! :p
life!

the thought of what we want to achieve at nuride is scary and at the same time motivatinng enough to work towards it. you'd assume the rewards would be worth it. i'd like to think that way.

saw 16blocks. like Sandy and chote said, eoowww. screwed up silly movie. 4/10. now no movie deserves to go below 4points in my scale system! every darn movie has something special to take it above 4points. the special thing about 16blocks - ....ahhh...? okay, i givee it 3/10.

dashboard 2.0

have started work on dashboard 2.0.
have estimted 2weeks for end-to-end work. lets see.

well, will meet Agra nanaji over the weekend. hope to find something good at the sales. will try to finish logger part of Dashboard.

The best part about Dashboar2.0 is this -
It's a separate application that will run on nuride.com. It will not be used by the regular site visitors; but the business users. My job is to understand what they want, possibly give them more and then develop the entire application from scratch. i use the tools i like, i design my own application and implement it. nobody is expecting me to document anything. all they want is a clean fast application. I do design, coding, testing, deployment :)

now that is way way off how we 'used to' work at Infy.
...so much for thinking about the past.

lemme just enjoy the present and make a future.

12?! for God's sake!

The Reston TownCenter is a nice place to hang about...a few cozy little restaurants and the multiplex. and peaceful at that, unlike most downtowns.

experience at nuride has been exciting since the last few days. i have finnally started working on real issues rather than just looking at code. there is still a whole lot code to look at though...thanks to wonderboy Daugherty :)
So I am responsible for ESRI (the Geoghraphical Information System), EPA data (car data), Dashboard 2.0 (the reporting console) and performance tuning.
Lets see how it all turns out.

Hey the cost of laundry at my apartment is $3.00!! which means I will have to find 12 quarters each time i need to wash clothes, instead of the 8 that i was used to...

Impossible Missions' Force

how come he gets to work with all the chicks and all i get is an all nerd team of males! maybe...its the profession!

Well, this one gets a 7.5 outa 10.

The graphics are well done, the story was well sorted out. Yet another plot with the American war tactics background.
The mouth reading skills were especially interesting to me! wud love to have that skill...

twas the first time ever...and i mean evvvvver! that i went to watch a movie alone. And i found the whole experience 'not too bad'. ya, i can spend time that way...if i have to!

oh shit!

duuuude...i found 3 white strands on my heavy head today! damn...it is the beginning...!

well work is keeping me busy all through the day, and when i feel like taking a chill i dunno what to do except for - open gmail, close gmail, open yahoo, close yahoo. end of break. pathetic :p

Well, my car is running smoothe (fingers crossed), office folks are planning to play soccer over lunch this friday or possibly early next week.
have a nice crowd in office, not that any of them are my age nor are there any Indians (that i could've talked about cricket and politics and bollywood to pass time over a cup of coffee...) but they are nice to talk to. I don't know if that's the typical American crowd.
Andy, my boss, has been into small business and VCism for quit some time, and is kinda feeding off his contacts to do the best at his work. He's a nice guy, would love to sit in his corvette some day :)

ghar main kaafi chezain khareed li hain...other i should be able to get this weekend (ideal circumstances :p) will post pics soon...

first day

'twas the first day at NuRide today...

Boy did I get a glimpse of things to come :p
There will be a lot of work, knowledge, exposure and opportunity. What's even more exciting is that it'll be a homerun or a strike out, no draws here. It's probably the best time for me to take such a risk, and I hope i enjoy it while it lasts.

So this is a 20 something strong company (i still dunno the exact figure!!). for the record 3 in connecticut, a couple in houston and the rest in Virginia.
everyone is performing 10 different tasks at one time...
Hey, i'd be working with multiple screens. That would be exciting - one to monitor system events, one to monitor network traffic, one for coding, one for dev environment.. :) just like the movies!

hmmm...there's so much to find out.

have put flat out effort in looking for an apartment and a car. bhaiya had offered for me to stay at his place for the 3months while i'm here...i don't think it would work out good...i'd prefer to stay alone...
for car, my focus has been the Solara. Luv the car for the it's looks, price and the reliability it offers! puhleeeez God help me find a nice Solara :-)

gotta pick clothes for tomorrow's work day...
later

The big Apple

Am out of Infy as of Apr 14 06. It was a big decision for me. 'twas my first job...
Now, no more cribbing, no more complaining and no more crying...about Infy...it's somebody else's turn now ;)

To celebrate I just needed a good vacation.
Got that from New York :)
It was the 4 of us, me, milu, sandy, chote. had a great time. I think we did almost everything that had to be done there -
- View of NY from Empire State building. cool. spend good about an hour there, photographed the entire city :)
- took a tour bus to go around the city. twas fun to know the history of the sky scapers
- took a cruise ship to view the island. water is always fun :) especially with so many beautiful girls around you ;)
- visited the statue of liberty. although could not climb it, it needs some passes and you have to book them 2 days in advance
- saw a broadway musical comedy 'i love you because', it was good. i'd recommend it to you. encourages me to watch more..
- saw ground zero. and read about the vision for the future...
- stayed in NJ and travelled for a couple of hours everyday to 'n fro NY :p
- drove a Red Mustang convertible
- clicked snaps like crazy

here's a snap of the four of us on the cruise ship...

the mustang

finally got my hands on this mean machine

Programmer Analyst

Not that it matters anymore...but it's nice to know :)

I got Infosys Personal Band change from B to C. Ya, and now I get all the goodies...you know...the meager Infosys PA salary. The CRR3 raise. all the good stuff :-]

to do...or not to do...

arre maine apne ko soch soch ke confuse kar dala...

hua yeh ki apun ka PM kuch bola. ab woh bolta aise hai ki bin bole bol jaye. apun ke yeh pasand nai. toh apun jawaab de diya. ab apun ka jawaab aisa ki woh chupp ho jaata. 2-3 baar ho gaya :~

phir main socha, haan main jawaab de sakta hun...(jeez, it's difficult to write in hindi...) but it does not mean that I reply so harsh. I could have played it more cool, and leak the steam someplace else. Or maybe he could have replied even worse?
stupid me.

to du to du to du

the oh so lovable word of Desi public - mamu :)
he finally caught up with my car....thankfully not me :p

my accord's license plate has expired. and mamu din't like it that way. Gujju did the best he could to avoid a ticket..."office i had no idea my plate had expired. infact i have recently applied for a texas license!".
lolz. Well, mamu gave us...err...him a written warning. next time it will be a citation.

moody on call?!

think i realised this quite some time back...only posting it today :p

firstly, lets not discuss the reasons because I'm not too clear why!
secondly, you may provide feedback. good or ..umm...okay...bad. I won't kill you.

When I call people I sound cheerful and have much to talk.
When people call me I sound busy and probably not too happy about the things around me...and not much to talk either.

Why? I dunno :)

call me.

target 4/24

sweeeeeet!
Had a fun time in trying to convince my Program and Project managers about why I want to leave the #1 IT company of India.
Not fun because of the masala involved and the chance to get dirty on 'em :p, but in all the commotion and before it began, I got real close to figuring out what I want and why I would want it.

Lolz. today my dear engagement manager came from Dayton, patted on my back and said - Ankush, yeh tum kya kar rahe ho yaar? me, "it for the best i guess". And end of discussion.
In a sense, I was waiting for him to say something and so I can respond in the best manner and find out if I can take him on...lost the chance...

So, here's the deal now -
I will be relieved mid April, and will be joining NuRide by 4/24. So will probably get a few days to chill out and start learning Eclipse :o)

Does GIS sound exciting? I am told I will be working with one such tool too!

cheers!

The Inside Man

What a crappy movie. I dunno...whether the director as trying to be different or whether he does not have the skills at all!

This gets a 5.5 out of 10.

The plot although smart, was quite a bit predictable. The dialects were pretty naive.

The most surprising part of the movie was that apna very own Dil Se - Chaiyya Chaiyya was the opening song...OST as you call 'em. Nice to see dat :)
(oh 'n i heard somme Indian gymnast also danced to Indian music in CommonWealth '06).

A scene about the cops harassing a surd was not what I wanted to see...being an Indian I know what Mr.Vikram felt about is turban, but obviously the hall found it humorous, ...screw them *mericans.

wooooohoooo!

yea!
NuRide got back with the offer. I've taken it.
All goes well and I'll be joining the firm in mid April...

Got out of Dayton when it was about to get chily. Will get out of SA before it starts burnin'!

project party at Simi's

Duh!
A project party in an Indian restaurant was the most distant from my idea of a project party location :p
Obviously not so much for others.

consolation - atleast we din't end-up at a texmex. I don't like that too much.

simple got difficult today

bummer!
nuride din't work out. Kush was sad for a moment today...

neways, now the fallback plan comes into play. Gotta write to Mr.Sam.

oh ho

Hey what the hell!
I thought I had it, probably for a brief amount of time. Now I can't seem to find it.
ghayab...chole gacho...!

Where is my inspiration?

I don't have it in me anymore? I don't want to do something big, something 'larger than life' in life.
Need some more time to think over this.

But yes, it's getting on my head - what is it that I want? What is that I really really want?

I had that needles and pins feeling in my stomach yesterday. Dat was scenario one.

I had a similar feeling again today. Scenario two - i cooked pav bhaji.
Well! It was really good, bhhhut, i think was too hot for my stomach.

he he!

I know i'll have this feeling tomorrow evening.
And I am glad I got that chance.

Go SPURS Go

a lot iz going on these days. have barely enough time to sleep. dats the price one has to pay for his own good ;)

Yeaaah!
Had bought tickets for the Spurs v Maves match about a month and a half in advance.
And what a match t'was! We won! We won! yeah, now that i'm in San Antonio, i have this bonding with the home team. Makes me more happier to know that this win made the SA team numero uno in West Zone.
I saw a basketball match for the first time here...so twas a nu experience. A good one! (unlike the D3 - Dayton Dragon Disasters!)
Had a lot of fun, pizza, beer, shouting, abusing the mavericks, oooohhhhs, and hoooorraahs! I'm a Spurs fan now. totally! oh and the Coyote...he was fun too. cheer girls...they played their part alright.

Am only afraid that i won't be able to cheer my home team for long...home team is gonna change perhaps!

American Cockroach in Indian bathroom!

The last weekend

Gave the XML Master xam. Satisfied and relieved.
Took the Cadillac DTS to drive to Austin. hit 98mph (for international audience: 1m = 1.6km). But for the traffic would've crossed 100. missed out on that one :(

Boy! I easily remember the first certification exam i had given, SCJP, it wsa a big surprise to me. And an eye opener, these cert guys are not out there to pass on credibility to 'nothingness'.
For this exam i was prepared. Well, not as prepared as a test taker should be, but prepared enough to handle surprises :)

I realised i have lost stamina to give long exams. After just an hour of this exam i was tired and bored enough to give up the last 3-4minutes while i could still have revisited a few of the doubtful questions.

Seems, i'm not in the mood to write more...excuse me folks... ta ta.

my mom

was beginning to prepare masoor dal (ya...i cook masoor too! amazing what a man living alone would do for the paapi pate)...just pondering over how much time it's gonna take for me for the whole 'ordeal'...and i realised that mom made breakfast, lunch and dinner. 99% of the times there was new food in each of those meals (an impossible number when you are away from home!).

Ma, not a day goes by when i can't think of something good you've done for us.

a funny thing

a funny thing happened when we went to watch rdb.
after the movie ended i was waiting outside the theatre waiting for others to come out. They had gone to pay a visit to the 'su su' fairy after the 3 hour movie (he he! i know you Love that word!). And while i was waiting, this 15 something girl came to me and asked "can i dance around you?". lol! wut problem could i possibly have...if it was only a one time! so i said yes...she danced around me a couple of times and then went away.
weird,,, funny,,, made me smile.

don't make no sense to me...

So why keep running after the perfect sense?! there is no such thing as perfect sense...it only comes in bits and pieces...not even like a jigsaw that you could win if you put 'em together. There's always a piece missing ;)
what a funda...wah!

RDB 06

Incidently this is the first Hindi movie i've seen in a picture hall in US.

Rang De Basanti is an good movie. Have i done this before...what?! well given a movie 8/10!

The story, even though, unrealistic in a couple of instances has a lot that can be related to real life. The story line is different, and the caste was well sorted out. If you are in the mood, you'll love the comedy.

The movie has an explicit message for the youth of India. India is your. You have to take charge. Even the style of taking charge is not the best one, the ending justifies the result. So you gotta keep two things in mind - that you should take charge. and not in the most obvious way ;)

Saif's sister is in this one. Nothing special about her.
Rehman's music, as always amazing. 10 on 10.
Roobaroo is the best. Nice lyrics and absolutely contextual.

yippee!

just figured out that my car also has a sliding sun roof! Earlier we though it was just a moon roof...because the button din't seem to work.
But ofcourse! we never tried turning on the ignition before clicking the button ;) he he!

just gotta go to the dealer and get the darn code for the audio player and check if the CD players works good as well!

blue swede - Hooked on a feeling

Ouga Chaka ouga! ....

I can't stop this feeling
Deep inside of me.
Girl, you just don't realize
What you do to me.
When you hold me
In your arms so tight,
You let me know,
Everythings alright, ahahah

I'm hooked on a feeling,
I'm high on believing,
That your in love with me.

Lips as sweet as candy.
Their taste stays on my mind.
Girl, you keep me thirsty for another cup of wine.

I got it bad for you girl,
But I don't need a cure,
I'll just stay addicted, If I can endure
All the good love, when we're all alone
Keep it up girl, yeah you turn me on.
...

sweet song
Today we though of trying out the pool table int he apartment recreation room...we found that they haven't given the keys to us!! :(
Atleast i can use the gym. Go there to sweat it out sometimes.

Also tried dinner at India-Palace one more time. The first time was an incident to remember. It is a legend. All of us who were there oni that day suggest India-Palace to those who comem to SA for the first time!...so they appreciate the other good things in life ;)
Tonight the dinner was okay. I guess served dinner is mostly better than buffet...

I want to be busy. I want to be so busy, i don't find time to think about things that trouble me.
I want to be busy, and do myslef some good.

then what?!

So the problem is that my clients don't know what they want from the project. The reason they don't know is two faced. Firstly, my project's Client Program Manager cannot get the business stake holders to a conclusion about what they want. Secondly, the requirement being captured are allegedly swaying away from the original business vision.
Not that it matters that the business vision came into being not too long ago. And we are probably the first scape goats ;)

We depend on other projects to make the integrated system work as such. Others also depend on us. But they are somewhat uninterested in discussing and conclusively freezing the interface agreements.

There is a lack of resources, and a Infy guy is allocated to the client to help gather Use Case Requirements, which in turn are elaborated as part of requirements gathering by Infy resources (your truly included).

Infy is doing evaluation of Content Management Tool (i hear they drastically improve and sanctify processes...although at a good cost), for a business that has required and used it for like 10 years. Infy, as far as i know might have just got their hands wet now!
Same is the case of Item Authoring tool (evaluated by me). I believe Infy has not even stepped near the sink for this ;)

neways, life goes on.
I hear, BLR2 is getting more and more projects because of the quality of resources is better and we have proved ourselves with many high risk, time constrained and techie projects.
Good to hear that.
Fear the future though!

let's see where this goes.
maybe i'll be out of this one before it closes out on all of us.

upgrade yourself

Some don't know what they want in life, no question of how to ask for it.

Some don't know what they want in life, but ask for things. Face a lot of failures. Sooner or later you get there...Because you settle for what you have.

Some know what they want in life, but do not know how to ask for it. A lot of missed opportunities. May or may not get there at all.

Some know what they want in life, and know exactly how to get it. Success in many respects.

phirse kaam

I have been a little aggressive at work since the last few days.
There's a lot of work and have been keeping pretty busy. So much for finding time to prepare for the XML exam!

Have a new Gieco policy now. old one cancelled...over...

:(

can't stop thinking...

Hazaron Khwahishen Aisi

Overall a nice movie. The director has not given any overly ambitious scenes in the movie. Just plain truth. Sometime scary truth...

I love that scene when Vikram is about to be killed by cops in Bihar...it is very well directed and gives you the feel - what would you do?? you would be helpless too...! Scares the hell out of me.

1975 Bihar. It was inhuman how people were treated. Am afraid the truth won't be too far even today.

And when they come together...whoa!

like you just wanna get rid of those things. erase out from the memory!
but they come back and haunt you...in one way or another. How long do you forgive and forget? I'm sorry...i am not even fully human ;) let alone close to God!

everyday!

Everyday, day after day i am beginning to discover more about the net. Anything sells here.

It's a huge business case study in it's own. You just gotta surf the right pages and have a little business bent of the mind. You will watch what the world is doing to you, the consumers, of the web!

Thought i'd post a couple of links -

helyo

How do you do that? How to make one's blog more interesting?

Is your life not as interesting as others. They have great blogs. So many wierd yet exciting things happen in their lives. Maybe they are only good at story telling.
Or maybe your blog is interesting...but you just don't realise it.

I've come across so many interesting blogs. So many interesting people out there :p

There was this housewife blog, by a, yep!, housewife!, who passed time by filling her blog. She had a opinion about everything!
There was this recent blog about someone posting as Aishwarya Rai. Lol!
Sethi Sahib is an interesting blog. He is one story telling master!

There are blogs where people post their opinions. How they feel about the world around them
There are blogs where people post their experiences with a lot of masala and twists!
There are blogs that people use to tracks their own life
There are blogs dedicated to something important to the author.

I won't compare my position. you do that. I will just go on blogging.

progress!

A little progress on the self improvement front...
Have taken a data for the XML Master's Basic Certification exam. Have given me a month to prepare. I think it should be sufficient...with all that is going on in office.

You know what, i realised that the better my time is planned the more i'm focused and able to concentrate better. In this run, i'm hoping to concentrate better in office and study xml after office.

check this out! Aishwarya Rai this is funneeee!

amazing concept

This website was created by a student in UK, who wanted to raise money to complete his education.
He created a website and put a blank image - 1000pixels by 1000pixels in dimension. He put a price of $1 per pixel and invited people to buy pixels from him.
He wanted to earn 1000*1000 = a million USD.

here's how he fared - the million dollar home page

It's just amazing!

LOL - Infosys Support

you have to read this -

Hi, I am unable to access the AHD application on xnet. It repeatedly asks my user-id/password but does not open the application. Other applications on xnet are accessible using my id/password.
