merry christmas

yep! that's the way i should be :)
Thursday evening i decided that i gotta see bro! and i bought the tickets and landed up at Charlotte the next evening.

I reached around 7pm since my flight was an hour late...and we went straight for a party to his friend's home. Saw quite a few new faces...infact all new! It was a nice crowd. From bengali PhDs to housewifes to financial forecasters to just the 'here for fun' kinds. We had this Bailey's drink - made of cold coffee and vodka, 'twas nice. Although that's not the one that made my head lighter than usual!

Vikas and aishwarya arrived late in the night. And Sameer-Vandana arrived next day early morning. Everyone wokeup to say hi-hello and then everyone went off to sleep, including the early visitors ;)

All of Charlotte was closed on Christmas eve and the day as well. ( i am told that in Dayton, even walmart of closed on Christmas eve...now that is some nuz to me) Anyways, we went out on Saturday night to Capital Grill. Its one of the most expensive restaurants in Charlotte...yeah...humare standards unche hain...(not that we had no lunch and it was 9pm and the only visible open restaurant was his one). Anyways, we had some drinks and appetizer there. The food was real good. We had ordered Lobsters and Calamari. Had either of these for the first time. It was real good....mmmmm....

I had a great time in Charlotte...considering that i had been deprived of new intellectual company for quite some time now...and i needed that break.

christmas holidays coming :)

and i have nothing planned. How silly.

i dunno what i want to write here today. but i still want to post something...

thoda sa philosophical -
Well, i've been so obsessed with small things that i've been missing the big picture in life. I continually remind myself about the things i've done wrong or i'm doing incorrectly...someday someone or something inside me is bound to listen!
There is so much to do. I know i can plan my time much better...but why don't i do it? I need that answer to come out from inside of me.

King Kong 2005

This is a nice remake of the old king kong movie. The story line has remained the same but presented wonderfully well. They've put the special effects to good use.

I would rate this as 8 on 10.
A must see for movie lovers as there are not many good movies around these dayz!

It's a 3 hour long movie. Worth the time.
But would not advise to see it on a Sunday night at 10pm show, so it ends at around 1am...and you are all sleepy on Monday morning! he he!

Saw the previews for a couple of promising movies...

oh ho!

itna saara kaam pada hai!
kaun karega bhai??

In this new project in Texas, my role is that of a Technical Analsyt. Cool.
I get to work on the requirements, the High Level Designs and also on the architecture. Being involved with a project from the very beginning really helps in the long run. As of now the Infosys team is only 4 member strong in Harcourt. Expected to grow to 75 maybe...
Lol. Here's a chance to be Mr.NASA of R1!!

ME IN TEXAS

I think i owe me blog an apology! Sorry for keeping you in the dark...I had gone missing for sometime since i was busy preparing the move to Texas. And now i'm here! Reached Saturday evening.
Boy! it has been two tough weeks! Had so much work, so many things to clear, so many questions to answer.
I remember when such a thing happened during R4 release when i was loaded with work. If my colleagues were working at 100% capacity, i was working at 300%. I was so overwhelmed that after 2-3 times i had that lost face, Rama pulled a meeting and asked me to transition some of my work to others!
Well this time, things were better. I was a bit more cool and handled better. That's what exeperience does to you! Nothing can inform your brain better!

Anyways, so i reached San Antonio Airport. Took a rental. The hotel where i am staying and where my new PM is also staying is about 5 miles from the airport. Reached the hotel, freshened up, and away we went to downtown :) with Gagan (yep, he's my PM). It's a cool and happening place for starters!...i'll write later with added details! Had chinese dinner. T'was good. Sunday i moved in with my PM. Well not exactly moved in!! :) I just dumped my luggae at his hotel room and vacated mine. Why pay the extra bucks, when Arjav is gonna come back tonight and i can go to our home (again more about all such details later)

the news is me has moved to a new town in US :) Did have to leave a lot of baggage behind.

Left a few friends behind. Some will be in touch.
One will not even try to be...I don't think i've ever done that before on purpose - made sure i won't be remembered at all. That's life. And every moment is a learning. The sad thing is that i can't remember the good times...only bad memories...the ones that should be forgotten.

my site

oh i so much want to work on my own website. Not able to find time to do that. I get so many ideas to put in on it...but no time to implement. Plus i need that webspace. It's becoming a vicious circle, i have not developed the site since i don't have webspace. I din't buy webspace because i don't want to start paying for something i haven't created yet!
So me decided to look for free space. Trap17 is a good place to look for it! All you gotta do is make intelligent posts and you get credits. You can use those credits towards purchasing java enabled free webspace. I have good about 31 credits now. But after taking the space and all i'll last only three weeks on the free service! the catch is that you have to be an active member of site, earn credits, and give life to your website! Jeez!

Have to start working on the faq tool! It will get me points for my next appraisal. Plus, i want to use it later on my portal. I think i'll port the already developed portion to MySQL.
Oh n btw, my appraisal is done. I have submitted it to Sunil S for the closure. So that should be done by Tuesday. The appraisal went fine. It had to...not because i did a great job, but because - my boss's boss told me that she did a good appraisal for my boss, so some goodness would be passed on to mew! ha ha! You know, it's good to have contacts in the higher circle ;)
Anyways, i wasen't expecting too much from the appraisal. I don't care much. Just keep in the US of A so i earn enough to cover my mba. And ofcourse i need that thingie to buy all the good stuff and J my friends.

Syriana

Have you ever watched those soaps on television? those miserable family entertainment shows? Like 'saas bhi kabhi bahu thi' and kinds!
Well the common thing between those serials and this movie is that many different stories are running together in one episode.
The difference between the two is that these sub-stories in the serials never end since the serials themselves never end!, whereas this movie ends after 2 hours - single episode.
The result is that half the stories were left incomplete; too many questions unanswered.
I'd rate it a 6.5 on 10.
The scene that i think i'll remember for some time will be Chinese Torcher #3 on Mr.Clooney. You have to see it, to feel what i feel now...eooowwww!

ghar se samaan

Went to Akron last weekend to pick up the stuff send by mom :) yippeee...
saank and ladoo were amazing as always. yum.

how much

do i really want another 2 years of academics or just 1?
Why the need for mba?
Which course? Which college?
how much money would i need if i have to do an mba?
in essense how much time do i need to spend here to be able to support myself for the mba?

many of these questions would be answered once Akshia does his thing! Everything he's doing now, is creating a path as well an alternative for me.

San Francisco

I was home alone on Wednesday after Benz left for LA and Milu left for Vegas. Came back from work at around 6pm. Din't feel like cooking any thing. Had maggi (maggi has been the backup meal for me most of my adult life - when i've stayed away from home!). Went to the gym. It was 10pm...worked on the computer...i really don't remember what i did, but i finally went to sleep around 1am.
Well woke up at 4:15am! Just changed and left. Had to park the car near the airport before i took the flight to SFO at 6am. This parking costed just $25 for 6days. That was quite a difference from the park n go people who were offering the space for $48!

The flight was okay. They gave me a free headphone to listen to new XM Satellite radio on the plane. No food was served (how could one possible survive hungry by waking up at 4am and not get nething till 12pm)! I picked up a snack at the airport. I was dying to eat!

Hemant mama started off late from Sacremento and was not going to reach SFO before 2:30pm. Pulkit had joined them last night. He had a sudden plan to visit them on Tuesday. So i drove off to Mr. Raghu Bhargava's house in San Hose. Met nani's mami when i reached there...Raghu himself was not home! and neither were his 3 kids Neha, Ritu & Rishi. Well i passed time watching TV.

hmmm...at this point in my story, it seems i will go on and on and will take up atleast 3pages in this sfo story...so i'll cut short!

Hemany mama, mami, utsav, pranav & pulkit reached San Hose around 3pm. Was happy to see them all! Meanwhile we had been working on the menu for the thanksgiving menu. We cooked turkey. Yes! Spent thankgiving the American traditional way! There were Yams (sweet potato), tortilla chips with Hemant mama's chutneys...bread, some veggi stuff for the veggies. Stuffed myself to the brim. And went to sleep around 11pm...afterall i had almost not slept at all for 48 hours!
Woke up at 10am, dressed up and we left for San Francisco downtown. Surprisingly we found free parking space on thanksgiving day! It was unbelievable! although we soon realised that all parking was free due to public holiday :p. Anyways we went to Macy's...din't buy nothing there...clothes seemed good and cheap, but was in no mood for shopping. We went to the Coit Tower. It's probably at the highest point in SFO. The view from the top was great! We had Thai lunch. Drove around the downtown...the streets were soooooo steep! It was amazing (will upload pics). We went to watch golden gate bridge. It looked beautiful. The wind was pretty strong on the little mountains from mwhere we saw and photographed the bridge...most of my pics are shaky!

Anyways, later in the evening we drove back to Davis. It was about a couple of hours drive.
On Saturday, we went hiking, went to the univeristy campus, tried bowlinng but it was all booked :(, played air hockey :). Utsav tried a few of the other games at the entertainment center.
On Sunday we went to visit the Sacremento downtown. It was once known to be full of muggers and gangs and bad people...but now it is very safe and has infact become a tourist attraction.
We saw about a 1000 harley davisons near the Capitol (work place of the governor - Mr. Arnie). It was some kinda meeting festival for all Harley drivers. no bikes with mama, but we did get to do a lot of cycling :p

Overall it was a relaxing vacation. Had good food all the time. Mama likes cooking and making new stuff...and mami is not a bad cook at all either. we played (or we Were Made to) a lot of bonus (a card game) with Utsav! Childish masti with Pranav.

Came back on Tueday morning.
